Join us next week on Tuesday, August 11, for our summer speaker series, beginning at 6:30pm on the Bell Tower Lawn. Together, we'll explore what it means to hear God's voice and practice discernment in today's world.

We welcome Dr. Lauren Schwer as she speaks on 500 Years of Ignatian Wisdom for Modern Seekers. Listening to God sounds wonderful but without some tools or companions, it could feel overwhelming. The spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola has had relevance to a discerning heart for 500 years in concrete and life-giving ways through his approach to discernment and spiritual direction.

Dr. Lauren Schwer serves as the Director of Ignatian Spirituality at Loyola University Chicago, where she focuses on the formation and inclusion of faculty and staff to the school's Ignatian mission. She has been training individuals in Ignatian spiritual direction for a decade and practicing as a spiritual director for 15 years. Prior to this role, she worked in youth, young adult, and campus ministry for 18 years. Lauren earned both her B.A. in Theology and M.A. in Pastoral Ministry from Boston College, and has certificates in Spiritual Direction (Loyola University Chicago) and Spiritual Entrepreneurship (Columbia Business School). She completed her Doctorate of Ministry at Catholic Theological Union.

Acompáñanos la próxima semana, el martes 11 de agosto, en nuestro ciclo de conferencias de verano, que se celebra los tres primeros martes de Agosto de 6:30pm a 7:30pm en el jardín de la Torre del Campanario. Juntos exploraremos qué significa escuchar la voz de Dios y practicar el discernimiento en el mundo actual.

Damos la bienvenida a la Dra. Lauren Schwer, que hablará sobre 500 Años de Sabiduría Ignaciana para los Buscadores Modernos. Escuchar a Dios suena maravilloso, pero sin algunas herramientas o compañeros, puede resultar abrumador. La espiritualidad de San Ignacio de Loyola ha sido relevante para un corazón que discierne durante 500 años, de formas concretas y vivificantes, a través de su enfoque del discernimiento y la dirección espiritual.

La Dra. Lauren Schwer es directora de Espiritualidad Ignaciana en la Universidad Loyola de Chicago, donde se centra en la formación y la inclusión del profesorado y el personal en la misión ignaciana de la institución. Lleva una década formando a personas en la dirección espiritual ignaciana y ejerce como directora espiritual desde hace 15 años. Antes de ocupar este cargo, trabajó durante 18 años en la pastoral juvenil, de jóvenes adultos y universitaria. Lauren obtuvo tanto su licenciatura en Teología como su máster en Ministerio Pastoral en el Boston College, y cuenta con certificados en Dirección Espiritual (Universidad Loyola de Chicago) y Emprendimiento Espiritual (Columbia Business School). Completó su doctorado en Ministerio en la Unión Teológica Católica.

Iskali Serve & Shine Day of Service

Join Iskali for Serve & Shine, a meaningful day dedicated to prayer, community, and active service.

• When: Saturday, August 8th | 7:00 AM – 2:30 PM

• Where:

  • Start: Iskali Center (1409 S 5th Ave, Maywood, IL 60153)

  • Service: Mission of Our Lady of the Angels (3808 W Iowa St, Chicago, IL 60651)

We will begin our morning centered in Christ with Holy Hour at the Iskali Center. Afterward, we will travel together to Our Lady of the Angels to assist the Franciscan Sisters at their annual Health Fair & Back-to-School Event.

During the event, volunteers will serve primarily as translators, advocating for the health and well-being of local families, breaking down communication barriers, and sharing the good news of God’s love and care through both words and actions.

Make a Difference: Whether you are fluent in Spanish or just looking to lend a helping hand, your presence will impact lives.

Jornada de Voluntariado Serve & Shine de Iskali

Únete a Iskali en Serve & Shine, una jornada llena de sentido dedicada a la oración, la comunidad y el servicio activo.

• Cuándo: Sábado, 8 de Agosto | 7:00am – 2:30pm

• Punto de partida: Centro Iskali (1409 S 5th Ave, Maywood, IL 60153)

• Servicio: Misión de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles (3808 W Iowa St, Chicago, IL 60651)

Comenzaremos la mañana centrados en Cristo con una Hora Santa en el Centro Iskali. A continuación, nos desplazaremos juntos a Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles para ayudar a las Hermanas Franciscanas en su Feria de la Salud y evento de vuelta al colegio anuales.

Durante el evento, los voluntarios colaborarán principalmente como traductores, velando por la salud y el bienestar de las familias locales, superando las barreras de comunicación y compartiendo la buena nueva del amor y el cuidado de Dios tanto con palabras como con acciones.

Join us next week on Thursday, August 13 for The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima. The film follows the story of three children and their witness to the blessed mother in Fatima.

Enjoy a relaxed and engaging evening movie series created for community, connection, and meaningful entertainment. Come at 7:30pm to enjoy fellowship, connect with others, and settle in before the movie begins at 8:30pm. Bring your lawn chairs, cozy blankets, and BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage) as we kick back and enjoy a variety of inspiring, thought-provoking, fun, and motivational films under the summer sky. Children’s Faith Formation

We invite you to participate in the prayer workshop “Let’s Pray with Jesus,” where we will reflect on what prayer is, learn about, and practice different ways to enrich our prayer life. Becoming Catholic as an Adult

Are you interested in becoming Catholic or completing your Sacraments of Initiation (First Communion and/or Confirmation)? We invite you to join the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

Whether you're exploring the Catholic faith for the first time or are already baptized and seeking to complete your initiation, OCIA offers a welcoming place to learn, ask questions, and deepen your relationship with Christ through meaningful conversation, prayer, and community.

Sessions meet Wednesdays from 7:00–8:30 PM, beginning September 9, in the Parish Office.

¿Te interesa convertirte al catolicismo o completar tus sacramentos de iniciación (Primera Comunión y/o Confirmación)? Te invitamos a unirte a la Orden de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos (OCIA).

Tanto si estás descubriendo la fe católica por primera vez como si ya estás bautizado y deseas completar tu iniciación, la OCIA te ofrece un espacio acogedor para aprender, plantear preguntas y profundizar en tu relación con Cristo a través de conversaciones significativas, la oración y la comunidad.

Las sesiones tienen lugar los miércoles de 7:00pm a 8:30pm, a partir del 9 de Septiembre, en la oficina parroquial.

Parish Bike Rides

These fun community building events are a great way to get to know others while enjoying the city and getting some exercise. Please wear a helmet, bring a beverage and lights for the evening ride. Use and follow basic bike hand signals. Your bike should be in solid working order and it is up to you to deal with any mechanical issues that could arise. Please be sure to register below.

August 8, 12:30pm • National Museum of Mexican Art: We will depart from the front of the church, taking city streets, mostly the bike lane on Damen Avenue to the museum where we will spend time with the Images of Faith exhibit. Be sure to bring a bike lock.

September 6, 6:30am • Bike the Drive: We will meet in front of church for a 6:30am departure for this city-wide event.  Registration through Active Transportation Alliance is required. We will stay as a group until we reach Grant Park and then continue based on ability, some riding the entire 30 miles or more.

Por favor, lleva casco, tráete algo de beber y luces para el recorrido nocturno. Utiliza y respeta las señales manuales básicas para ciclistas. Tu bicicleta debe estar en perfecto estado de funcionamiento y es tu responsabilidad solucionar cualquier problema mecánico que pueda surgir. Asegúrate de inscribirte a continuación.

8 de Agosto, 12:30pm • Museo Nacional de Arte Mexicano: Saldremos desde la entrada de la iglesia y recorreremos las calles de la ciudad, principalmente por el carril bici de la avenida Damen, hasta llegar al museo, donde dedicaremos un rato a visitar la exposición Imágenes de Fe. No olvides traer un candado para la bicicleta.

6 de Septiembre, 6:30am • Bike the Drive: Quedaremos delante de la iglesia para salir a las 6:30 de la mañana hacia este evento que recorre toda la ciudad. Es obligatorio inscribirse a través de Active Transportation Alliance. Permaneceremos en grupo hasta llegar a Grant Park y, a partir de ahí, continuaremos según nuestras capacidades; algunos recorrerán las 30 millas completas o incluso más.
